Babies Who Brunch

One of the many perks of working from home is being able to have friends over for lunch! It's great for me because I get to see real people during the day, and it's great for my girlfriends who can bring their babies and let them play with each other. (I guess they don't really play together that much yet, but they have fun looking at each other and checking out each others' toys!) You've heard of "Ladies Who Lunch", but now it's "Babies Who Brunch"! These are 4 of 6 of our friends' brand new babies. There were 6 babies born in 7 months! Clockwise from the top is Anthony (born in Sept), Lilly (born in Jan - she's brand new!), JJ (born in Aug), and Elise (born in June).

Hungry for a job?

I have a "friend" who is a Recruiter. My "friend" was recruiting for a position in an undisclosed state down south (let's just say it was south of the Mason Dixon line). This "friend" sees a decent looking resume and decides to call this candidate. My "friend" tells me the conversation went something like this....

Recruiter: Hi, this is (friend) with (company). I came across your resume and would like to speak with you about (position).
Candidate: Ok great.
Recruiter: This position involves some specific technical skills, like X, Y, and Z. Can you tell me about your experience with X, Y, and Z?

*Silence. The call drops.*

**Pause 2-3 minutes. My "friend" is about to call the candidate back, when she receives a call back from the candidate**

Recruiter: Thanks for calling (Company name), this is (friend)! How can I help you?
Candidate: Umm yea. So I've done X at this job and....
Recruiter: I'm sorry, who is this? You didn't identify yourself.
Candidate: Oh this is (candidate name). I did Y at that job, and wait - can you hold on a second?
Recruiter: Ummm ok sure (Usually my "friend' doesn't mind when people put her on hold when she calls them out of the blue. However, please keep in mind that the candidate called my "friend" back)
Candidate: Umm yeah, Can I just get a cheese biscuit? Yea that's all. Thanks. Yea, and I did Z at that job.
Recruiter: {Stifling laughter!! Did she just order a cheese biscuit through the drive thru? While on a phone interview?! While she's the one who called my "friend" back in the first place?! My "friend" is stunned and has no idea what to say next! She's still laughing!!} Ok great. Do you have experience with A, B, and C too?
Candidate: Yea.
Recruiter: Ok well wonderful! Thanks so much for your time! {hang up immediately!!}

Happy Anniversary!!

Today is a very special day. My BBE (best buddy ever) Ann has an anniversary! It's the 5th anniversary of her 25th birthday!! Happy Anniversary!! Thanks for taking the plunge first...I'm so happy you were born!

Running!

We ran 7 miles today! It was cold and chilly and there were snowflakes flying all over, but we survived and felt great.

Steve: "Hey! Only 1 more mile...until we have 1 more mile..."

Aldi Heads Up!

We love shopping at Aldi - you can't get everything there, but you can get a whole lot of stuff for super cheap. You can fill up your entire cart and it's always around $50 and never more! It's amazing and I can't say enough things about it. However, every now and the we make a mistake of purchasing something we probably shouldn't have. We discovered something you should not  purchase there. Stay away from the whole wheat gnocchi. It tastes like dog food smells. GROSS!

Saving 3 Lives!

Last night Steve (voluntarily) gave blood for the very first time! He did great and took it like a champ. He didn't pass out or look queasy or anything! I'm so proud! The first time I gave blood I thought I was going to be sick and they had to lay me back in the chair and put a cold wash cloth on my head. Oops. Luckily Steve responded a lot better than I did. Like the phlebotomist said - he was born to save lives!!
